Vape carts, pods and all-in-ones: Raw Garden, STIIIZY, PLUGPLAY, Boutiq and how to choose

Vapes are the largest category on our menu, close to four hundred items, and the questions are always the same: which brand, which oil, which hardware. Here is the short version.

The oil: live resin vs distillate

Distillate is THC oil refined until almost nothing else is left, then usually flavored with added terpenes. It is strong, consistent and cheaper. Live resin is extracted from frozen fresh plant and keeps the plant's own terpenes, so it tastes like the strain rather than like a flavor. It costs more and many regular vape users will not go back once they switch.

Raw Garden built its name on live resin and is the biggest single brand on our shelf. Boutiq, COLDFIRE Extracts and Sherbinskis sit in the same premium lane. STIIIZY, PLUGPLAY, West Coast Cure and Muha Meds cover the distillate side with strain-named flavors.

The hardware: three shapes

• 510-thread cartridges: the universal screw-on cart. Works with any 510 battery. Most brands make them. Raw Garden, West Coast Cure, Muha Meds and Dime Industries are mostly 510.
• Pods: STIIIZY and PLUGPLAY use their own pods and their own batteries. The battery is cheap, the pods snap in, and you cannot mix brands.
• All-in-ones: pen and oil in one unit, ready out of the box, nothing to charge or screw on. Turn, Sluggers Hit and Heavy Hitters make popular ones.

How to choose

• Never vaped before: an all-in-one. Nothing to set up.
• Already own a STIIIZY or PLUGPLAY battery: stay with that brand's pods.
• Care about taste: live resin, Raw Garden or Boutiq.
• Care about price per gram: distillate, a one-gram 510 cart.

A note on the label

Vape labels list total THC as a percentage of the oil. A cart labeled 90 percent is not "stronger" in a way you will feel next to one labeled 85; how it feels depends far more on how long you pull and how often. Start with short draws.
